Workcamps 2026

From 25 Jun 2026 to 15 Jul 2026

Description

Join Wood Stock ‘26, a creative and hands-on workcamp dedicated to woodcraft and reuse, set in the unique setting of our castle. This project invites you to work with your hands, share skills and give new life to wood through renovation and upcycling. From restoring traditional wooden window shutters to creating furniture from reclaimed pallets, you’ll help preserve the character of the place while embracing sustainable practices. A project rooted in craftsmanship, creativity and collective energy!

Work

Participants will work mainly with wood, focusing on the renovation of the castle’s wooden window shutters: repairing damaged elements, fixing hinges, sanding, treating surfaces and, when needed, crafting new shutters. In parallel, the group will design and build simple, functional furniture using recycled pallets. Tasks will include dismantling and preparing wood, measuring, cutting, assembling and finishing. This project combines manual skills, teamwork and creativity, offering a practical introduction to traditional and sustainable woodworking techniques.

Accommodation and food

You will be accommodated in various shared sleeping rooms for 4 to 8 people at Château du Créneau. Wi-Fi is not available on site. Food will be provided and prepared in the château kitchen by you and other participants in groups, with the support of the kitchen supervisors. Meals are in majority vegetarian; two meals per week contain meat or/and fish.

Leisure

Weekend activities are organized collectively with the whole group. Are you more of a city person? The towns of Vichy and Moulins are just forty kilometers away! Looking more for a country stroll? Feel free to explore the surrounding area on foot or by bicycle, discovering the landscape, heritage and local craftsmen, taking a swim, or enjoying sports and leisure activities and outings.

Description

Pote’Agé is an intergenerational project rooted in nature, sharing and transmission. Set in our permaculture garden, this workcamp brings together young and older generations to work the soil, grow food and reconnect with the essentials. Through gardening, learning and exchange, participants will explore how caring for the land also means nurturing relationships, roots and the future. From planting vegetables to improving garden spaces, this project is an invitation to grow together, cultivating both the garden and the people who tend it.

Work

Volunteers will take part in the creation, maintenance and development of the permaculture garden. Activities will include preparing the soil, planting vegetables and herbs, watering, mulching, weeding and caring for existing crops. The group will also help improve garden spaces by building or repairing small structures, paths or beds, and by organizing the area for long-term use. Throughout the project, participants will learn basic permaculture principles and sustainable gardening techniques, sharing knowledge across generations in a hands-on and collaborative environment.

Accommodation and food

You will be accommodated in collective non-mixed tents (6-8 people per tent) with floors and beds, at the Créneau campsite. Wi-Fi not available on site. Food will be provided and prepared in the château kitchen by you and other participants in groups, with the support of the kitchen supervisors. Meals are mostly vegetarian, with meat and/or fish served twice a week.

Leisure

Afternoon and weekend activities are organized collectively with the whole group. The region is rich in space for walking, swimming, celebrating and discovering!

A time journey is waiting for you: help transform a village into a medieval fair! Now in its 30th year, the Souvigny Grand Site association organizes the medieval fair, which attracts over 30,000 visitors every year. For 9 days, the village is transformed into a lively spectacle of troubadours and acrobats. Amateur and professional troupes perform on stage. In this context, an international workcamp is set up to help create the event and share the traditions of French medieval culture. Explore various stands and themes: music, theater, juggling, fire artists, tightrope walkers, hawks and horses, craftsmen at work, living encampments, blacksmithing, cooking, tents, and much more. Join us as we bring the past to life and create unforgettable medieval memories!

Work

Immerse yourself in medieval adventure by working with the team of local volunteers: set up the installations, run the stands, cook and contribute to the success of the fair! This job combines technical skills, physical strength and organization. You’ll help set up and dismantle stalls, tents and barnums. You’ll contribute to the signage, traffic plan and layout. Take care of general fair logistics, including cooking and cleaning. Run stands such as the bar, pancake stand and much more. Please note: during the first and last weeks, the work will be particularly physical, with heavy lifting and busy days. Take up the challenge and live this memorable medieval experience!

Accommodation and food

Your collective dormitory will be located in a municipal building. Food is provided and meals are prepared by volunteers in turn in a permanent kitchen. Lunchtime meals are taken with other festival volunteers. Take your best recipes with you!

Leisure

Leisure time is organized collectively with the whole group. During the second week and weekends, you’ll be busy with the fair. Discovering the region will therefore take place in the last week. You’ll have the chance to take part in concerts, workshops, exhibitions and other events organized in conjunction with the fair!
